The effect of myxomatous mitral valve disease severity on packed cell volume in dogs

چکیده

Objectives The aim of this study was to examine whether associations between disease severity and packed cell volume exist in dogs with myxomatous mitral valve disease. Materials Methods Data were selected from 289 that had been examined at a research clinic (2004–2017) on multiple occasions (n=1465). American College Veterinary Internal Medicine stage echocardiographic measurements entered separate multivariable linear mixed effects models as the dependent variable. Age, breed, sex, weight blood urea nitrogen concentrations additionally tested these analyses control for patient characteristics. Results Packed (% whole blood) stages B1 B2 (B1: 42.62 ±0.27, P=0.001; B2: 41.77± 0.42, P < 0.001) lower than A (44.57 ±0.53). In C, greater both preclinical (C: 43.84 ±0.46). When administration loop diuretics included statistical models, inversely related normalised left ventricular internal diameters (β: −2.37; 95% confidence intervals: −3.49, −1.25; 0.001). Clinical Significance Dogs may develop reductions their progresses. Although finding statistically significant population level, it should be noted differences described are relatively small. This, along other causes variation volume, means changes would challenging appreciate within individual patients. Plasma depletion following diuretic explain why findings differed C.

Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease in Dogs - an Update and Perspectives

When discussing myxomatous valve disease in dogs, one has in mind atrioventricular valves, in particular the mitral valve, which is affected the most commonly and followed by the tricuspid, aortic valve and pulmonic valve, the last being seldom degenerated. Myxomatous mitral valve disease (MVD) is the most common cause of heart failure in dogs (1). In literature it can be found under various na...

Biopterin Status in Dogs with Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease is Associated with Disease Severity and Cardiovascular Risk Factors

BACKGROUND Endothelial dysfunction (ED) has been suggested to be associated with myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) in dogs. Tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) is an important cofactor for production of the endothelium-derived vasodilator nitric oxide (NO). Under conditions of oxidative stress, BH4 is oxidized to the biologically inactive form dihydrobiopterin (BH2). Thus, plasma concentrations of B...

Long-term effect of sildenafil on echocardiographic parameters in dogs with asymptomatic myxomatous mitral valve degeneration

Sildenafil is a selective phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor that has been demonstrated to delay ventricular remodeling in humans and experimental animals. The aim of this prospective study was to assess the chronic effects of sildenafil administration on echocardiographic indices and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in dogs with naturally occurring, asymptomatic myxomatous mitr...

Serotonin Concentrations in Platelets, Plasma, Mitral Valve Leaflet, and Left Ventricular Myocardial Tissue in Dogs with Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease

HYPOTHESIS/OBJECTIVES Altered serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5HT) signaling is postulated in development and progression of canine myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD). Little is known regarding platelet, plasma, valvular, or myocardial 5HT concentration ([5HT]) in affected dogs. We quantified [5HT] in platelet-rich plasma (PRP), platelet-poor plasma (PPP), mitral valve leaflets (MV), and le...

Predictive model for the detection of pulmonary hypertension in dogs with myxomatous mitral valve disease

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) often occurs due to a left heart disease, such as myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD), in dogs and is diagnosed using Doppler echocardiography and estimated pulmonary arterial pressure. Diagnosis of PH in dogs requires expertise in echocardiography: however, the examination for PH is difficult to perform in a clinical setting. Thus, simple and reliable methods are...
